Captain America: The Winter Soldier

On top of being an entertaining “popcorn movie” in its own right, this 2014 adventure also proved a dazzling display of Marvel Studios’ corporate synergy in action, since the story line simultaneously was being amplified by events playing out on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” The powerful story of how “Cap” (Chris Evans) discovers his past has come back to haunt him is rewarding enough on its own terms. Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan also star.

The Resident

8 p.m. ET on FOX – Season Premiere

As this hit medical drama returns for Season 4 amid a deadly pandemic, the action nevertheless picks up on a joyful note as Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and nurse practitioner Nicolette Nevin (Emily VanCamp) tie the knot in an intimate ceremony. Meanwhile, Chastain continues a transition from private to public hospital, forcing the beleaguered staff to repair a broken machine from the inside. Conrad Ricamora (“How to Get Away With Murder”) joins the cast as elite plastic surgeon Dr. Jake Wong, Dr. Bell’s (Bruce Greenwood) estranged former stepson.

9 p.m. ET on CW – Series Premiere Newcomer Joel Oulette heads the cast of this imaginative new drama as Jared, an Indigenous teenager struggling to keep his painfully dysfunctional family together. He holds down an after-school job and covertly sells Ecstasy to pay for his mentally ill mother’s (Crystle Lightning) own drug habit. In the series premiere, a drug dealer threatens Maggie, Jared’s mom, over an outstanding debt. Meanwhile, frightening hallucinations hint at much bigger troubles lurking right around the corner. Craig Lauzon and Kalani Queypo also star.Young) from a secret that could tear their family apart forever.

As with many Americans, 2020 has been a harrowing year for the Martones as they struggle to keep afloat the glitziest family-owned and -operated salon on Long Island. The COVID-19 pandemic struck a serious blow to up-close businesses like theirs and then, in the middle of that serious challenge, the family was sent reeling by the sudden death of their patriarch, Big Mike. As a new season opens, his widow, Jennifer, has taken over the family’s financial obligations, but Bria and her fiancé, Matt, continue with their wedding plans.
