I’ll Be Gone in the Dark

10:07 p.m. ET on HBO – Series Premiere

Based on her book of the same title, this six-part documentary explores the late writer and blogger Michelle McNamara’s investigation into a violent predator she eventually would dub the Golden State Killer. Known initially as the East Area Rapist, this serial killer terrorized California in the 1970s and ’80s, when 50 home-invasion rapes and at least a dozen murders were attributed to him. In the premiere, McNamara delves into online chat rooms and crime blogs, becoming immersed in details of the crimes committed by the still-unidentified murderer and connecting with like-minded sleuths.
