Today’s Top Picks

1

Helter Skelter: An American Myth

10 p.m. on EPIX – Series Premiere

This new six-part documentary series from filmmaker Lesley Chilcott and executive producer Greg Berlanti ponders the classic question of whether killers are born or made as it chronicles how Charles Manson and his “family” cult terrorized California in the late 1960s and early ’70s. The history of that twisted alliance unfolds in part via never-before-seen interviews with Manson’s former followers and some of the journalists who covered the story. Manson himself died in prison at age 83 in 2017.

2

Wynonna Earp

10 p.m. ET on SYFY – Season Premiere

The wisecracking supernatural horror comedy returns for its long-delayed Season 4 premiere, although the production shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic means these 12 new episodes will air in two batches of six, with a hiatus between them. As the story resumes, the dreaded Earp family curse has been broken, but before demon hunter Wynonna Earp (Melanie Scrofano) can celebrate with her pals, she must confront her most dangerous enemy yet — this time without her trustworthy gun, Peacemaker. Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Katherine Barrell and Varun Saranga also return.

3

Beyond the CANVAS

10:30 p.m. ET on PBS – Series Premiere

PBS NewsHour senior national correspondent Amna Nawaz hosts this new four-part modern arts and culture series which highlights some of the best arts reporting from CANVAS, PBS NewsHour’s cross-platform arts initiative. The focus of tonight’s series premiere was not available at press time, but among cultural creators scheduled to be profiled during this first season are rock superstar Bruce Springsteen and “Hamilton” creator and original star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

4

Clueless

11:35 p.m. ET on FREEFORM

Alicia Silverstone gives a star-is-born performance in this deft, improbably charming 1995 rewrite of Jane Austen’s “Emma.” Silverstone plays Cher Horowitz, a privileged Beverly Hills, Calif., teen who meddles in the love lives of everyone around her. Cher is thunderstruck when she discovers her own true love is right under her bobbed nose. Stacey Dash and Elisa Donovan reprised their roles in a later TV spinoff; Paul Rudd also stars in this delightful comedy, which marks its 25th anniversary this year.
