As the sinister forces of the Magisterium close in, Lyra (Dafne Keen) discovers more about Lord Asriel’s (James McAvoy) rebellion, but she realizes that the only way she can help him will carry a devastating personal cost, as Season 1 of this dazzling adaptation of Philip Pullman’s epic literary fantasy draws to a close in “Betrayal.” Ruth Wilson, Will Keen, Ariyon Bakare and Amir Wilson also star, with Helen McCrory heard as one of the daemon voices. HBO has picked up the series for a second season.

Smith and beloved gospel artist CeCe Winans are the guest artists for this 2019 holiday concert, which was recorded at Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tenn. Musical selections include both classic carols such as “Joy to the World” and “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing” and such popular seasonal hits as “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and “White Christmas.”

Food Network Challenge

10 p.m. ET on FOOD – Season Premiere

Ian Ziering (“Beverly Hills, 90210”) takes over the hosting chores as this culinary competition for bakers, cake makers and sugar artists returns for Season 4. Pastry chef Keegan Gerhard, a former host of this show, now joins “Topless Baker” Matt Adlard and “MasterChef” winner Claudia Sandoval on the judges panel. For the season premiere, “A Christmas Story Cakes,” the participants must draw inspiration from the popular yuletide movie about BB-gun-loving little Ralphie and his fractious family.

Christmas Cookie Challenge

11 p.m. ET on FOOD – Season Finale

In the Season 3 finale, “Colors of Christmas,” host Eddie Jackson challenges five gifted cookie makers to decorate cookies using only detail, texture and relief, no colors. After judges Ree Drummond, Dwayne Ingraham and Gesine Prado assess which bakers best complete the assignment, the lucky survivors move on to a round that features real explosions of color as they make tarts built from cookie layers, luscious cream and ingredients with vibrant hues, like kiwis and pomegranates. The winner claims a grand prize of $10,000.
