George Tillman’s 2018 adaptation of Angie Thomas’ novel stars Amandla Stenberg in a widely praised performance as Starr Carter, an African-American teenager who lives in a predominantly black neighborhood but attends Whitman Prep, a private school. Starr faces a crisis after seeing her best friend fatally shot by a white cop. Regina Hall also stars.
Hugh Jackman stars as U.S. politician Gary Hart in Jason Reitman’s 2018 political drama, which chronicles Hart’s unsuccessful 1988 presidential bid. That campaign crashed and burned when an extramarital affair made headlines. Jackman didn’t fare much better, either: His film bombed, earning just over $2 million at the domestic box office. Longtime “Saturday Night Live” performer Kenan Thompson is an executive producer on this new reboot of the kids’ sketch comedy series that first made him a star in its 1994-2005 Nickelodeon incarnation. This new revival features an entirely new cast of young performers, abetted by guest appearances from original cast members. In the premiere, Kel Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg and Josh Server appear; The Jonas Brothers perform.
TV executive Lily Bellenger (Heather Hemmens) returns to her hometown to film an episode of her hit wedding reality show and almost immediately runs into Scott (Cornelius Smith Jr.), her erstwhile college sweetheart. Their chemistry is still there. Unfortunately, Scott’s in the episode because he’s about to get married to someone else in this new romance.
