Fox series features ‘Sex and the City’ veteran as host
Kristin Davis knows firsthand that there are various paths to parenthood.
Being a single mother to two adopted children helped prompt the “Sex and the City” alum to sign up as the host and a producer of “Labor of Love,” Fox’s new Thursday reality series that puts former “The Bachelor” contestant Kristy Katzmann on a quest to choose someone as not only a partner, but also the father of the child she wants to have in the immediate future.
“We wanted to find people who were already in that place, and not put them in that place,” Davis explains of ensuring the “Labor of Love” participants were ready to be parents … or at least thought they were when production began. She notes that at the start, “Everyone across the board said, ‘I want to be a parent in the next year.’ ”
Davis maintains that initially, she didn’t know Katzmann already was versed in the “Bachelor” process: “I wasn’t fully involved in the female casting. I was more involved in choosing the men. I reviewed hundreds of ‘man tapes,’ but it was tougher with the women in a way. They had to be specifically ready, and ready now, in wanting to have a child as well as a partner. We’d find an amazing woman and then she would say, ‘I don’t know that I need a partner. I might just want to do this alone.’ ”
Still, Davis is satisfied with the way things have gone. “Fox felt the show needed to be about someone who’s looking for everything,” she says, “because we’re told that we can’t have everything. So, how does than pan out?”
