Bell a two-way threat
Q: Are you going to be directing more episodes this season?
A: Yes. Great question. I will direct the series premiere. … And, yeah, it’s going to be awesome. I love the opportunity to obviously direct, but also given that we’re in the writers’ room and we can really kind of have a lot of fun with what the premiere will be. And I don’t know. I’m just excited. I think more animals, the better is kind of what I’ve instructed. Liz (Meriwether, the series’ co-creator and executive producer) and I both are kind of aligned in that, so buckle up for that business. It’s just a lot of feed. … But Dax (Shepard, Bell’s co-star) is actually directing one, too. So we’re very excited to have a wonderful lineup of directors, including myself and Dax.
Q: Do you and Dax share tips on directing since you’ve both done features?
A: Yeah. I mean, I think we’ll see. … But, yeah, absolutely. I think at this point we have a great camaraderie both professionally and personally, and I’m really excited for him to come in. He’s such a smart actor and contributor to the show that I’m just really keen. He kept being, like, “Just give me some something to blow up.” I was like, “Wait. What? I don’t know if – we’ll work on it. You know, we’ll work on it.”
Q: Liz mentioned that she likes to write about stupid things people do together because of love. Have you and your husband ever done any stupid thing together because of love?
A: We’ve had children, so … . By the way, twice. We also just adopted a puppy. So I think, pretty much, that’s how – that’s like my mantra for life. She has distilled it to perfection.
