Bethany Joy Lenz has ‘An Unexpected Christmas’

'One Tree Hill' alum delivers her latest of many holiday movies

Bethany Joy Lenz of ‘An Unexpected Christmas’ Friday on Hallmark Channel and W Network

Q: As “An Unexpected Christmas” — about a broken-up couple pretending they’re still together — adds another title to the ever-growing list of holiday movies you’ve made, what was the appeal for you of this one?

A: It has lots of fun comedy and some romantic moments. It was a really great script, and Tyler (Hynes, Lenz’s leading man in the film) is so smart and makes such good, interesting choices, I would love to work with him again. He’s challenging in a really good way. He understands cameras and lighting and the scene as a whole, and I really enjoyed working with him a lot.

Q: Since your holiday movies have become annual events for many viewers, what do you like about continuing to make them?

A: I love it when people come up to me and say they recognize me from them, because it tells me that they’re in a place where they want to feel good, and that’s what these movies do for people. To be able to be a part of that and give back to people who are out there working hard every day, and just want to come home and want something to make them feel warm and fuzzy, it’s a wonderful space to be in.

Q: What are your own Christmas plans this year?

A: I’m such a last-minute planner! Part of being in this business is that every time I make a plan, it must be changed. Something always pops up, so I wait until the last minute more often than not, unless it has to do with my daughter and her schedule.

Q: Are you pleased with the way “Drama Queens,” your podcast with fellow “One Tree Hill” alums Hilarie Burton Morgan and Sophia Bush, has taken off?

A: It’s just so fun to be able to spread my wings a little bit. I have so many ideas, it’s really fun to be able to share my creativity, so I’m grateful that “Drama Queens” has gotten such a great reception.
